OKScript Status Report #25 December 5, 2003 Dear OKScript User, The OKScript Status Report is sent to OKScript licensees, developers and friends when significant updates have been made to the program. Interesting techniques and applications for the program will also be distributed in the report periodically. To update or be removed from this distribution list please see the links at the bottom of this message or write me at yweare@gte.net. This issue announces a new release of OKScript that includes the following features ... - Ability to set a button's background color. - Support for non-administrative users of NTFS computers running Windows NT, 2000 and XP. - Reorganization of the help system. - Bug fix - EditPad window activation - Bug fix - license expiration issue. BUTTON BACKGROUND COLOR A button's background color can now be set to something other than the default by appending a hyphen and another color name to the button's color field, for example: BUTTON abc red-navy OKbridge bla bla{enter} This feature is nice for structuring large button panels. An example can be seen at the OKScript web site. NON-ADMINISTRATOR SUPPORT Until now, OKScript stored it's settings (OKScript.ini) in the same folder as the OKScript program, usually c:\Program Files\OKS40. This was also the default location for script files. This folder cannot be written to by a non- administrative (limited) user when using NTFS on Windows XP, 2000 or NT. This release of OKScript can be setup to run with non-administrative privileges which significantly reduces your NTFS computer's vulnerability to malicious programs and "hacking" when connected to the internet. This feature is enabled during the OKScript installation process by checking the box that says "Create a separate settings file for each user of this computer" during the installation process. Uncheck this box if you are updating your existing installation and want to continue saving the settings in the program folder. Once installed this feature is controlled by a file in the program folder called USER-INI.TXT which contains instructions for modifying this behavior. Also during installation you are asked to select from several options for script folders, two of which are writable by limited users - under My Documents and under Shared Documents. UPDATED HELP SYSTEM The instruction reference section of the help was re-organized with one instruction per page. An alphabetical and category index was added. WINDOW ACTIVATION BUG A few programs, including EditPad and InnoSetup, cause OKScript to hang with the "Abort_Script!" menu displayed (and functional) after activating their window. When activated these program's behavior was confusing to OKScript (and me). I made a change that seemed to fix the problem. If anyone encounters window activation anomolies with the new release I'd appreciate hearing from you. LICENSE BUG The occasional situation where an old license code wouldn't work with an updated program has been fixed. For more information, or to offer suggestions or interesting techniques or applications for OKScript write me at yweare@gte.net. HOW TO UPDATE OKSCRIPT... To download the latest version (dated December 5, 2003) visit the website at ... http://home1.gte.net/yweare/index.htm Your existing license will automatically be active on the new OKScript if you install it to the same directory, or copy the okscript.ini file from the folder where your licensed program was installed to the new OKScript folder. Alternatively, you can re- enter the registration data. Please note that the OKScript web site may become sluggish following update announcements. If you experience this try again later or write me and I'll send you the installation package as an email attachment. Thank you for supporting the continuing development of OKScript.
